I can’t wait for summer. I love the freedom of a casual schedule, the revolving door of friends and activities, and all the sunshine, but somewhere between wanting to do all the things, keeping the kids alive and fed, and managing stuff around the house and for work, it’s easy to feel exhausted and overwhelmed. We are after all, burning the candle at both ends! However, over the years there have been several mindset shifts and boundaries we’ve set to keep the impending chaos and burnout at bay. Pick what you need from the list below and let me know what you would add!
HOW TO LIVE IT UP WITH THE KIDS THIS SUMMER WITHOUT BURNING OUT:
1. Let the kids be bored – it builds character and creativity.
2. Close the kitchen and pantry during certain hours of the day (24/7 snacking is not good for their health or your sanity).
3. Alternate home days with out-and-about days (or divide your day in half).
4. Chores! You are not running a cruise ship and it’s good for them to feel like part of the team!
5. Make quiet time part of your weekly/daily routine (read, draw, journal)
6. Be unapologetic about limiting screens and sugar, especially when at home.
7. Do a pre-summer declutter! And if you’re constantly having to fluff pillows, blankets, baskets, and other decor, store them in the closet until bts season. Less stuff = less to pick up.
8. Do a review of last summer (the camera roll is a great place to start!), what you loved, what you would change, etc. and then decide and write down what your intentions/goals are for this summer. It’ll make it easier to decide what to say yes and no to (among other things).
9. Don’t abandon your calendar! Even little kids like knowing what to expect and what they can look forward to.
10. Don’t abandon yourselves! You need sleep, real food, movement, to get ready for the day, and time with friends/husband. Everyone will benefit, I promise!
What would you add?!
🤟🏼, Rae
