The real life answer to that question (in the title) is, my mother. Since most of my childhood she made sure I had a pair of penny loafers (or mary janes) in my closet. How does that scripture go? “Train a child up in the way they should go…” Pretty sure that was her inspiration. Anyway, somewhere between the return of vans and the wear-with-everything sneaker trend, I had totally forgotten how much I love a good pair of loafers. Until a couple weeks ago when I found a cute pair on sale :)
LOAFERS (bought my usual size) | TIGER SOCKS (sold out but J.Crew has a ton of cute options)| HOODIE DRESS (wearing size 2 – s/m)
They add instant polish and preppy vibes and “go” with just about anything which is a great way to expand your wardrobe! Threw them on with socks and a hoodie dress for a little location scouting session with Johan, Griffin + Poppy last week…
(we have a new product we’re shooting for a client and they are looking for bright/bold backgrounds which is not usually what we gravitate towards, but it’s always so fun exploring and noticing new things!)
I bought this dress with back to school mornings in mind and also figured it would look cute over leggings or jeans… or even a midi/maxi skirt. The kids on the other hand kept asking me where my pants were, lol. Poppy didn’t believe that it was a dress so checked for herself and in the process, flashed everyone walking behind us on the sidewalk. Kids are the best at keeping us humble!
I love that Poppy wanted to pose her shoes next to mine for these pics. And that we somehow kinda coordinate with the mix of gold, yellow, white and black. Almost makes up for her reverse pantsing me, lol.
Can we talk about how I’m having a moment with blurry pictures? I don’t know what it is, but they feel raw and real and less serious and yet just as meaningful.
Let’s also chat about this brick and ivy building we found while out and about… gah! So pretty!
Which brings me to a few questions I have for you:
- Have you done any exploring lately?
- Are there any styles from your childhood that would be fun to bring back into your closet?
- Have your kids said or done anything to embarrass you lately? (And I mean that in the sweetest way, lol)
Let me know! I love reading your comments! (Or just tap the heart and call it good :)

I have been exploring around San Francisco on my weekend strolls. Each neighborhood is totally different and I love the visually changing landscapes. Through exploring I have found some fitness studios, organic family owned markets, random pickups, new walking paths, and fresh perspective. Best of all, signs from God. I love gratitude walks because they always reveal something special to me. As a kid, I loved the textures that come with fall clothes. Waffle knit, worn jeans, puffers, beanies, etc. So anything that brings that feeling back, I’m down to add to the fall wardrobe. Also, l’ love those JCrew socks. Their prints are iconic. I wear their men’s boxers to bed haha, and they’re so comfy with a tank or college tee! Again, the prints are SO COOL. Thanks for this post! Love the blurry pics too. Happy Monday to you and yours.
