OUR VISIT TO THE REINDEER FARM – LEAVENWORTH, WA

Dec 02, 2021life + family, outings + travel

You guys ready for some serious Christmastime vibes and reindeer spam? It’s rare that I’m impressed with the abilities of an animal, but these guys are seriously magical creatures and we had a blast visiting them at the Reindeer Farm in Leavenworth, WA. It’s also not often that I would suggest researching them with your kids, but you should! At the very least, you should look up a few reindeer jokes because there’s a lot and they’re pretty funny. Plus it’s always good to have a silly joke in your back pocket for a needed ice breaker or when things get tense at family get togethers… Just saying.

Here’s a post from the first time we visited the reindeer, shortly after they had opened I think!

For those interested, I’ll share outfit links for items I can find, at the bottom of this post. Let me know if I miss anything!

Griff, my nephew Logan, and my little brother Mitch! Had to include the “little” part. They’ve recently moved back to the west coast from Brooklyn, NY and we love getting to do all the Holidays and traditions together since they’ve been back.

Getting edumacated on all things reindeer and also what not to do while you’re in the pen with them. As someone that wasn’t the best student, in the traditional sense, I’m always surprised by how much I LOVE LEARNING NEW THINGS. Even un-useful things, lol. Or maybe I’m just becoming a total nerd in my old age???? Is that a thing?

Happy place.

Plus the reindeer made Poppy nervous so she was my sidekick pretty much the entire time which was fun. Love experiencing things with my kids!

In need of some dry shampoo. Side note: tried a homemade recipe while in Nashville and loved it. Will share soon!

Can’t scroll past this pic without saying how much I love you Espen!

Love all of these faces and hearts. Hate how fast they’re growing up but love that I get to be their mom in the process.

TWINNING!

Cayoot! 🦌

Giving the chickens, ducks, and turkeys a little attention, too.

Someones tired of dodging antlers.

Hahaha!

We’ll have a couple year gap in Santa pics, but so happy this happened!

There are two different kinds of people in the world. Those that love a good gift shop, and those who don’t really care, and these two were definitely outnumbered. But the shop was absolutely adorable!

Until next time!

Do you have any Christmas or Holiday outings planned this month!? Have you made a December bucket list!?

xo, Rae

Perfection is overrated unless your talking about Perfection is overrated unless your talking about waffles 🧇 and you know we take waffles seriously around here since we named our dog after them! Recipe is below to save for later or you can comment WAFFLES and I’ll send the recipe straight to your DMs!

CRISP & FLUFFY HOMEMADE WAFFLE RECIPE

YOU’LL NEED:
2 cups flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
2 tablespoons sugar
2 eggs (divide egg and yoke)
1-2/3 cup whole milk
1/3 cup butter, melted
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
TOPPING IDEAS: butter, maple syrup, whipped cream, *sprinkles, peanut butter, jam, *cacao nibs, chocolate chips, powdered sugar, berries, bananas, cinnamon, sliced peaches, fried or scrambled egg, etc.

HERE’S HOW:
Preheat your waffle iron and melt butter over low, if using stovetop.
In a large bowl, combine all dry ingredients: flour, baking soda, baking powder, and sugar. Whisk together.
Divide the egg yolk and whites into two separate medium sized bowls.
Add the milk, butter, and vanilla extract to the yolk bowl and mix to combine.
With a hand or stand mixer, beat the egg whites on medium-high until stiff peaks form. Should only take a couple minutes and makes the waffles so fluffy!
Pour yolk and milk mixture into the dry ingredients and stir or whisk until combined, being careful not to over-mix. Add the egg whites and fold them into the batter gently.
Heat oven to 250-275 degrees to keep cooked waffles warm and crisp. Lightly grease waffle iron (I like to brush on a little butter). Use a measuring cup to pour batter onto waffle iron, until wells are almost covered. Close the iron and cook for about 4 minutes or until golden brown. (Tip: This is a great time to prep toppings or tidy up the kitchen. If you’re like me though, be sure to set a timer!)
Place cooked waffles in a single layer, directly on rack in oven. When ready, top and serve!
