There is so much to appreciate about social media and blogs but one of my favorite things is how it allows you to connect with people you wouldn’t ordinarily know. Yet sometimes the convos feels a little one sided since I’m doing a lot of the talking over here, LOL. So let’s switch things up and pretend like we ran into each other at our favorite crepe and coffee place and in-between cleaning up spills and wrangling children we managed to chat a bit.
In the comments below, feel free to ask me anything — family/work balance, photography, marriage, parenting, having a blended family, faith, style, etc. — I’ll do my best to reply back to your questions today and tomorrow and will also cover any extra fun or repetitive ones on Instagram Live this afternoon at 4pm (PST)! Of course I’ll have to teach dance moves or something instead if you guys don’t ask me anything, so don’t be shy! Ha!
I have a question for you too: when you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?!
Now, ask and answer away!

When I was really little I wanted to be a teacher. In my teenage years I wanted to be a physical therapist. As an adult, I’m still growing up and have changed my mind a half a dozen times. I’ve managed to be a mom, a wife, a Girl Scout leader and Service Unit Manager, a chauffer, a scheduler, a team player, a coach, a friend, a confidante, a secretary, an office manager, a college graduate… I’m still growing and trying to find out who and what I want to be. I hope I continue to do that!

I love your answer Karen!!! Feel sometimes like I’m living out all the little dreams I had as a kid — stylist, party planner, etc — as a mom. xoxo

Hi Rae! What a fun q & a! :) Well, when I was younger, I definitely wanted to be a mom! Seems cliche but that was it, haha! When I was older and felt the pressure to have that not be “all” I did, I ended up being a dental assistant and have been a SAHM since having my son in 2008 and can honestly say my childhood “ambition” has been fulfilling! I love your blog, and it has inspired me to do fun things, be present and creative with my kids, trust God for every day life and just try and enjoy this season- thank you! ❤
rae
Oh Heidi, I love this! So glad you shared! xoxo

I always wanted to be a teacher, now I homeschool our kids ;) I just wanna tell you how absolutely darling you are! In your Q&A I’d love to know your beauty routine, or where you like to shop…girl stuff, ha ha!
rae
Hiiiiii Kristen! How cool is that (teacher/homeschool)!?
My beauty routine is pretty simple I think, but happy to share… I wash my face with dove soap, use Eucerin as my lotion and a few months ago started using some eye cream (that I LOVE!) by Roden + Fields. As far as makeup, I us a light foundation (sometimes mixed with my lotion) by mac, a little bit of bronzer + blush, mascara and lipstick on occassion. I have also been playing around with applying false eyelashes — the individual ones :)
I shop at zara, j.crew, madewell, aritzia, anthro, and target and old navy when looking for something specific (otherwise I buy too many random things that I wear once or twice!)
I hope that was somewhat fun or helpful…. always love a little girl talk!

I missed your live but I wanna hear it all! Are you a blended family? What’s a day in the life for your family? How did you decide the name of your kids? Where do you guys live! Are you religious? Share it all babe!!

Missed the Q&A but I want to know how you find time to workout and stay fit with five kiddos! And what your typical workout looks like. Or maybe running around with the kids is the workout :) Also, what do your kids think about your blog? Do they love to be in the photos? Who takes the photos for you?
Have you ever been asked to promote something on your site and just had to say no b/c you didn’t like the product?
I wanted to be a fashion designer when I grew up. I loved Teen Witch because the girl designed clothes and I was so envious! I still have a love for clothes and style! One day maybe I’ll learn to sew more than a pillow case and until then I’ll just keep shopping! :)

Hey Ginger!
As far as my workout routine goes, it changes about every 2 or 3 months as our schedules change. This summer was hit and miss, but lately I’ve been working out 2x/ week during Espen’s soccer practice while the other kids play at the playground. As the weather starts to get cold and rainy though, I’ll probably have to switch things up again! Then I try to fit in another workout or cardio another day or two during the week.
I’ve always been a cardio and weights girl, but after Poppy was born, going to the gym was just too much so my husband and I have slowly been building a simple garage gym — kettle bells, yoga mat, pull-up bar with assistance bands, box (for box jumps), speed jump ropes and a TV… I think that’s about it. We’ll either do a circuit or the other thing I’ve been doing on soccer nights is BossBody workouts I find on YouTube.
Of course chasing and playing with the kids counts too! There isn’t a lot of sitting happening at our house, lol.
Kids love the blog 90% of the time, and enjoy seeing pics and working on projects/cooking, I try my hardest to let them be themselves in front of the camera (I have a soft spot for silly outtakes) and just snap away while they do their thing. My husband and I tag team with pics about 50/50. It’s been a fun hobby to do together!
Yes, I turndown opportunities for free stuff or to work with another brand… if I wouldn’t buy it or don’t love it, I don’t share it. Often times, if you see a product I’m sharing it’s because I love their brand and approached the for a collaboration.
You and me both, on the fashion designing and shopping!!!

I wanted to be a teacher and I was! I taught K, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, Title I, and Computer Lab. 33 years, but now retired for 4years in December. I love your blog and never miss it. Keep up the good work.
rae
So great Wendy and thanks for the sweet words! xo
Claire
Love this! How do you find the time to workout and what kinds of workouts do you do? Do you still have a good relationship with Ozzie’s father? (Sorry if that is too personal!) where else would you live in the country if you had the chance?
rae
Hey friend!
My workout routine is always changing with the family schedule, but I’m currently working out mostly on Mondays and Wednesdays during Espen’s soccer practice while the rest of the kids play :) on those nights I follow along with a BossBody video on YouTube. Then I try to fit in another circuit workout at home (in the garage with the hubs) or some cardio (a little jumprope goes a long way or at least that’s what I tell myself!).
Not too personal, but also want to make sure I honor Oz and his dad. It’s been a rough relationship and a really long time since we’ve talked or he’s seen Oz. Wish I could give the opposite answer, but one day maybe!
My husband and I were just talking about where we would live last night! Living in the Carolinas or Nashville sounds dreamy and I think Texas would be fun. Southern California is really tempting once the rainy season starts around here and one of my best friends lives in L.A. We love it in Seattle, but we are both sun people!
How about you? Where do you live now?
xoxo

Can I ask where you bought her sweater? We are opening an eyeglass shop!
rae
Oh my gosh! So great! If you guys are going to be online, please send me a link… I have two kids who have glasses and contacts and we’re always looking for fun styles.
Her sweater is by Tucker and Tate from Nordstroms.
