It’s a big week around here! The kids wrap up school, Tilly graduates from Elementary (here she comes, middle school!), my brother and his family are moving home from Brooklyn for the summer, and it’s Father’s Day weekend! Did you see my shopping guide last week? Here’s a few more things happening around here:
- Quarantine Update: We’re officially in phase 2 (YAY!) and even though businesses are opening up and youth sports teams are talking about starting their seasons, things still feel very much up-in-the-air as far as what the rest of summer and fall will look like. Last week I listened to the super intendant’s plan for the upcoming school year and it left me feeling a little stressssssed to say the least, lol. Will definitely be coming up with a plan B and will probably be letting my kids decide if they want to go back or be home schooled. If anyone has a favorite homeschool curriculum or resource, I would love if you shared in the comments!
- Watching + Reading: Watched Remember the Titans the other day with the kids (such a good flick + is rated PG!), and The Help while folding laundry. Shared on Stories the other day this book about kindness and this book and workbook for the kids!
- Shopping: I’m almost finished rounding up all the cute and functional kids clothes to share with you… also rediscovered H&M! How cute is this coat (such a great updated utility look + perf for summer to fall), this tunic top (gimme all the puffy sleeves), this graphic sweatshirt for evening firesides, this bucket bag to add to a simple outfit, and THESE POOL SLIDES, gah!!?
- Home Update: Gosh I was hoping I’d have more progress to share by now however, I’m pleased to announce that the ball is rolling and we should be cutting concrete to install new windows, doors and plumbing (hallelujah) for the basement within the next few weeks! Just waiting on a few more quotes so we can make final decisions — like black or white (we’ll prob go with white) and wood or vinyl (crossing my fingers for wood!). Anyways, more soon.
- To Hawaii or Not to Hawaii, That is the Question!?: We had plans to spend a week in Hawaii at the beginning of July, but because of travel restrictions won’t be able to go (booooo!). So now we’re trying to decide between finding a new destination (spoiled by a friend who could be a travel agent and has been looking into places) or saving it towards a Hawaii trip in the future… Fully realize this is a first world problem, but what would you guys do!?

Pics are from a walk to get takeout last Friday… Shared one and a few thoughts on having big kids on the gram if you’re interested!
Happy Tuesday!
xo, Rae
We are going to start homeschooling our kindergartener in August. If you have any luck finding homeschool guides here in Washington, it would be amazing if you would share them!
Love your blog!

I will! I have a few homeschooling friends and plan on picking their brains this week and will relay anything that is helpful! Also, check back here in the comments as I’m sure people will share too! xo
There are a couple options for home schooling. There is online K12 who I know a teacher for them. My kids are in Puyallup and we will see what is decided, the middle schooler might do home online if they don’t allow or complain about masks. As for the trip, I would save up and then extend or do a nicer trip to Hawaii. I grew up there and you could even island hop if you save more.
Thanks Alyssa,
I was looking at k12 with the idea that it might be more consistent if/when they return to public school — will have to look more into it! Good Hawaii trip tip too! xo
Check out Felice Gerwitz and Media Angels on Facebook. I’m sure Media Angels has a website as well. Felice started homeschooling back in the day before it was widely accepted.
I have also decided that it might be a good year to homeschool. I am looking into the Gathered Round curriculum. It’s unit based and looks like something that we would ALL enjoy and learn from. It doesnt hurt that it is beautifully designed. I would add in some extras, but the idea of making school fun and memorable, is so appealing to me.
We were supposed to leave for Hawaii on Sunday!! I feel your pain! we are going to Hatteras, NC instead and hope that the world doesn’t fall apart by next year to make it to HI.
Check out The Good and the beautiful homeschool curriculum. I did abeka online program for 6th grade one year and it worked for us but ultimately decided homeschool wasn’t for us. Then this year happened. Debating what to do in the fall, too!!
Save for Hawaii!! It so worth the wait. My favorite trip!
good to know!!! xo
RA!
I am a homeschool mom in the Midwest. I am a classical homeschooler (that’s the schooling method I use) and encourage you to read about schooling methods (Classical, Charlotte Mason, Common Core), as well as curriculum.
Even if you don’t choose to homeschool, please look into Story of the World books (there are 4 of them) by Susan Wise Bauer. Read it to all of your kids and you will learn so much!
Start listening to Sarah McKenzie with Read Aloud Revival; again, wonderful mom-tips even if you don’t homeschool.
Best wishes, RA!!
This was so helpful, taking the online homeschool quiz was enlightening. Thank you!!
