I might be in denial that these two are getting as old as they are (Espen 14 + Tilly 12), but I have also learned a lot since their big brother was a younger teen (sorry Oz!) and while it can be tempting to either avoid topics of self-care because 1.) You don’t want to draw attention to potential insecurities 2.) You’re not sure where to start, or 3.) Because it’s one more thing to add to the expenses that come with teenager-hood, none of those things have to be true. For instance, it’s completely possible, and probably a good life lesson, to talk about normal teenage skin problems (that often last into adulthood) without making them feel bad or self-conscious about getting blemishes. The difference really is in giving them the tools to support their skin (or any other teenage dilemma). Which is why I’m excited to share 4 natural skin- care products you can diy at home for your teen or tween (hot tip: they might also work for you!). They’re all effective products that remove sweat, makeup, and dead skin while helping balance their skin so there’s no need for anything harsh! Or a big budget! Yay!
Recipes are below along with pics and cute reel (call me biased) of Espen and Tilly going through their routine. We had so much fun! Here’s to starting ’em young!
Oh, and labels will be available at OILYAY! in a few weeks!
TONE YOUR SELFIE (facial toner) — In a 4 oz spray bottle, add 5 drops Lavender and 5 drops vitamin e oil. Top with thayer’s witch hazel. Mist on face for a mid-day refresh or spray on cotton ball to cleanse face after washing… Also works great for speeding up the healing process of acne spots!
GLOWING PLACES (glow serum) — In a 2 oz dropper bottle, add 5 drops each of Frankincense and lavender, and 2 drops of Blue Tansy (optional but good for red spots on skin!). Top with jojoba oil. Shake to combine and apply to a clean (and toned, if using) face to moisturize and soften redness.
ZIT ZAP (blemish roller) — In a 10 ml roller bottle, add 3-5 drops each of Tea Tree, Lavender, Lemon, and vitamin e. Top with jojoba oil. To use, roll onto a cotton ball, q-tip, or clean finger, and dab on blemish to speed up healing.
OPTION: Instead of buying individual sets of bottles, you can also buy this full set that includes the spray, dropper, and roller, plus more you can use at a later time… especially if you already have oils or plan on signing up with me!
Haven’t noticed much of a difference in Espen’s skin since it was already flawless but I think it’s a good habit to have, even if he only uses the face wash! Tilly on the other hand, gets clogged pores and small bumps in her t-zone and this routine has pretty much cleared everything up just in a few days. So, we’re sold over here!
My non-conflict child peace-ing out from this situation, lol!
Always ok with shenanigans as long as they’re ok cleaning up the aftermath, lol.
Love the peek at Griff in the pic above, too!
Pretty easy to tell from the pics (and reel) which one of these kids has had more practice with skincare and which one only (but maybe not) washes their face in the shower. Toner over the eyelid is no-bueno, Espen! Although, I don’t think it even bothered him. Not to call him out but I’m sure some of you boy-moms (not my fave-term, but super applicable) can relate!
Bonus: I use variations of the toner, glow, and spot treatment, too so any of the supplies you purchase, you can get more use out of for yourself. As for essential oils, I know there’s a lot of options out there and I encourage you to try these recipes with whatever brand you prefer. However, I would also LOVE for you to JOIN ME and sign up for Young Living because I think you would enjoy it as much as I do.
Here’s 5 Reasons Why:
- It takes the guesswork out buying oils — everything you purchase has a guarantee of excellence — from seed to seal. (After years of doing my own research, this is what ultimately lead me to finally sign up for YL and as cliche as it might sound, wish I did it sooner)
- Access to additional products like Thieves spray, oil blends (like Valor), luscious lemon hand soap (smells as dreamy as it sounds), satin face scrub ($17), and lots more!
- Every purchase supports other moms and families… Let that sink in! Plus, there’s incredible earning potential if that’s something that would benefit your family — but also, there is no pressure if not!
- Signing up with me comes with a huge community of support, info, and resources (including labels and recipes to use with your starting kit)!
- It would be a lot of fun! In addition to the full team of people that I love and look up to (that you get access to, too), I’m working on bulking up my own mini community so you get more support from me, one on one! So much good stuff ahead!
Email me at rae (at) raeannkelly.com or send a DM if you have any questions or want help going through the sign up process!
Literally (that’s my kids rubbing off on me) had the best time working with Espen and Tilly to put this together! Hoping you guys might be interested in seeing more Teen/Tween posts in the future (promise they won’t all include essential oils, ha) … Let me know in the comments!
